Instructor Spotlight: Allison
Who are the members of your family and where are you originally from?
HI, I'm Allison! I'm from the small beach town of Fort Walton Beach, FL. I've been married TEN years to Brent and have two sweet kiddios- Susan who is 5 and Bennett who is 2.
What are 3 of your favorite things?
1. I love Dunkin Donuts iced coffee, cream and mocha swirl.
2. Along the same line- I love donuts. All donuts.
3. Reading. I've recently remembered my love of reading!
You are given 4 hours of FREE babysitting. What would you do?
With 4 hours of free babysitting, I'd have the kids taken to the park or somewhere so I could have the house to myself. I'd clean for a bit, then I'd take a nap and eat dinner with my husband in peace! HA
What has being a mom taught you?
Being a mom has taught me that you've got to go through the storm to find the rainbow. I want my kids to look back on their childhood and see nothing but love. I give my kids a lot of grace, not because they deserve it but because I love them enough to give it.
What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?
This is kind of a FIT4MOM story- Susan was in the midst of potty training and she said she had to go to the bathroom. We were at the park and I just walked her behind a tree to pee. WELL, she didn't tell me she needed to go number 2, so she proceeds to poop in the park- on the grass- like a dog. We were also surrounded by a group of moms. I was so shocked that I couldn't be embarrassed, but man it was funny.
When was your first FIT4MOM class and what do you remember about it?
I actually came to several test Stroller Stride classes that Melissa taught and then signed up at the first "official" Stroller Strides class at Dublin! I remember looking for something similar for months before I had heard about it because I had friends in other states do it. I remember how sweet Melissa was and how welcoming all the other moms were. I was so happy I could bring Susan along, too!
Tell us your story about how/why you became an instructor?
I was playgroup captain for a while, and had secretly thought I'd love to be an instructor. So when the opportunity presented itself, I jumped in head first! I took a big step of faith and got out of my comfort zone, and I'm so thankful I did it. You see, until FIT4MOM showed up in Madison, I was not a "healthy" person. I didn't workout, I didn't watch what I was eating. SO after two-ish years of being a FIT4MOM client and being so happy with the person I had because healthwise- I was ready to take it to the next step in helping other moms be their best selves.
What is the BEST thing about being an instructor?
The best part about being an instructor is the Moms. I have a heart for all things mom. Pregnancy, post-partum, and all the in-between. I want any mom I come into contact with to know they are loved and they're doing their best. And if I can facilitate that within one of my classes, all the better! I want them to leave my class thinking they are on cloud nine, let's rock the day. Which, I know they can, but I want to help them to think they can!
What is your WHY? Why do you keep doing what you do?
My why is my family. They're the ones pushing me to be better. I want to be around for a long time. I want to watch my child grow up, have kids themselves. To do that, I have to be healthy. FIT4MOM is not just about working out either. The "health" FIT4MOM has added to my life is way more mental than physical. My friends I've gained are just icing on the cake, and the knowledge I've gained is the cherry!
What is your favorite class exercise?
My favorite class exercise right now is a lunge with a toe tap at the top. I love that it works your strong mom legs and then just defines the muscle a little more with the toe tap at the top!
What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?
I grew up on a farm. Yes, I was born in Florida, but at the age of 3 we moved to a farm in Morris, Illinois. From the age of 3-9, I roamed barns and cornfields. The best memories of my childhood were from that farm.
Anything else you’d like Our Village to know?
We're adopting! We have been in the process of adopting for the last 6-ish months and have a long road ahead. We're planning to adopt a sweet child from India with special needs. The Lord laid on our hearts about 4 years ago to adopt and we're just following through!
